Alpine F1 Team are looking for an Aerodynamic Control Systems Engineer to join our Experimental Aerodynamics group. The Role

As an Aerodynamic Control Systems Engineer in our Experimental Aerodynamics group, you will play an important role in delivering upgrades to our control systems across the department to improve the effectiveness of our experimental aerodynamic work. In this role, you will write and deliver control code, or refactor existing code where appropriate, for numerous subsystems used in our experimental testing, including the wind tunnel model and its motion system, the tunnel facility itself, and supporting calibration and test rigs. You will also develop new simulation tools and write embedded software for new in-house electronics products. To support these activities, you will interrogate test data from a variety of experimental sources, identify weaknesses, proactively investigate the causes of these, and propose next steps to address any problems.

To succeed in this position, you will be a very proactive communicator, as your work will require close collaboration with engineers throughout the aerodynamics department, model makers and wind tunnel operators, and colleagues from other departments such as IT and software groups along with electronics. As someone with an active and curious mindset, you will constantly strive to enhance your own capabilities and those of the wider team by helping to improve our methodology and processes, championing best practice, and contributing towards the standardisation of our approach to control strategies.

The Person

You will have a strong understanding of, and ideally experience in, modelling, simulation, and control theory, embedded and application software development, and fault finding and resolution. You will be able to demonstrate a rigorous approach to high quality experimental work, and ideally will have some experience in advanced data analysis of average and time series data. While not essential, knowledge or experience in wind tunnel testing or related test rigs would make your application stand out. You will have a proactive mindset, and be able to work under your own initiative, managing your time effectively. This is fundamentally a team role, so you will be able to show us that you can work collaboratively even when under pressure.

  • Mathworks tools for automatic embedded code generation (Matlab, Simulink, Stateflow, Simulink/Embedded Coder, Simscape)

In this role you will be based at our Technical Centre in Enstone. While your core working time will be during conventional office hours, there will be an expectation for some weekend and out-of-hours working when required in support of our team objectives.
