About the Role
The Data Governance Specialist at Alpha Bank London Limited (‘ABL’) is a pivotal role in shaping and managing ABL's data strategy. This role is crucial for ensuring that ABL’s data is robust, well-documented, and compliant with all relevant legislation. We are a small team, and this is a broad ranging, hands-on role. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to manage stakeholder relationships. In addition to having proven experience in data governance roles within Financial Services, the ideal candidate will also have strong project management skills.
Responsibilities
- Formulates and defines the Data Governance and Quality Strategy across the Bank and monitors the implementation roadmap for the Data Governance Framework (DGF) adoption.
- Introduces and implements new data governance initiatives.
- Develops the Data Governance Framework and its Policies and monitors the implementation and application of the DGF procedures.
- Monitors the implementation of the Policies set out in the DGF by setting KPIs to evaluate the implementation progress.
- Evaluates the necessity of adjusting the framework to the current supervisory requirements in collaboration with the competent Bank's Business Areas.
- Develops and communicates updates to the Risk and Compliance Executive Committee, the Executive Committee and the BoD through the RCC regarding the implementation progress of the DGF and escalates issues.
- Receives feedback from control units (2nd and 3rd LoD) regarding the implementation of improvements and recommendations to the DGF.
- Aligns with the Internal Audit Business Area to facilitate the auditing process of DGF processes and methodologies.
- Assists in identifying Business Data Domains and defines Data Domains.
- Collaborates with Business Data Domains to ensure the correct classification of critical data elements in line with the DGF scope of application.
- Is responsible for the appointment of Data Owners and Report Owners (as well as other roles of the DGF).
- Maintains and updates the Critical Data Catalog (Business Glossary).
- Maintains and updates the Reporting Inventory/registry.
- Maintains and updates the End User Computing (EUC) Policy and inventory.
- Maintains and updates the Finance and Risk Reporting Framework (FRRF).
- Maintains and updates the Data Quality Registry.
- Periodically and based on the materiality of the Data Quality (DQ) issues, organizes Data Stewards Working Group meetings to ensure consistent and sufficient recording of the Data Quality Registry.
- Ensures that Critical Data Definitions are documented and are commonly accepted by appropriate Data Governance roles.
- Collaborates with IT for tech-related issue resolution.
- Collaborates with IT for the implementation of data initiatives as part of the overall data governance strategy.
- Proposes architectural model changes, data quality projects and/or changes to procedures/instructions to the appropriate Data Governance Bodies.
- Supervises the setup and the update of Data Lineage documentation for Critical Data and ensures its update due to system or data-related changes.
- Ensures the application of principles and procedures required to achieve the desired data quality (Data Quality Management).
- Periodically evaluates data quality issues identified through relevant/appropriate reports and documents required actions.
- Is responsible to raise awareness to the Bank employees regarding the DGF and the importance of data quality.
- Presents to the RCE the implementation progress and specific proposals regarding potential group DQ issues (e.g. data quality issue of a data element that is utilized in regulatory reporting by both the Group Company and the Bank) and escalates to upper Governance Bodies (i.e. Executive Committee, BoD) them if required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- Proficient in data analytics, data modelling, and database management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
