This is a senior role within the Public Health team reporting to the Director of Public Health (DPH). The role focuses primarily on the commissioning of services for children and young people, particularly the 0–19 Healthy Child Programme. The postholder will support the Director of Public Health in managing the Collaborative Agreement between the NHS and the Council and contribute to the delivery of the Best Start in Life Strategy as well as maternity and child health priorities within the draft Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026–2031.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commissioning of the 0–19 Healthy Child Programme.
- Support the Director of Public Health in the management of the Collaborative Agreement between the NHS and the Council.
- Contribute to the delivery of the Best Start in Life Strategy.
- Support delivery of maternity and child health priorities outlined in the draft Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026–2031.
- Work as part of the Public Health senior team to improve the health, wellbeing and life chances of children and young people.
- Support collaborative working between NHS partners and the Council to ensure effective delivery of services for children and young people.
Person Specification
Essential Experience
- Extensive experience in children’s services management.
- Strong knowledge and experience of commissioning 0–19 services.
- Experience working in a local authority in a senior management role, such as Head of Service or equivalent.
- Previous experience of working within the borough, with established local networks.
Knowledge and Understanding
- Strong understanding of 0–19 Healthy Child Programme commissioning.
- Understanding of collaborative working between the NHS and local authorities.
- Aware of the challenges involved in ensuring collaborative agreements effectively improve the health, wellbeing and life chances of children and young people.
