Almac Discovery is a research-driven drug discovery company which focuses on identifying and developing high quality, innovative drug discovery projects in areas of unmet need and then partnering these programmes for further pre-clinical and clinical development. The Company is unique in the field of small biotechnology companies in having access to both small molecule and protein-based approaches and is focused on two key platform areas (targeted protein degradation and next generation antibody-drug conjugates) which exploit these modalities.
The team is located in state-of-the-art facilities on the Queens University Belfast life sciences campus, close to two major hospitals and the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre, and also has laboratories in Edinburgh (protein therapeutics) and offices in our contemporary workspace in Manchester.
An exciting new position now exists within the team for a highly motivated, network-focused business development professional to support and drive our commercial partnering activities. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to be the external finder for suitable project partners, and to establish new collaborations both nationally and internationally. The role will require significant travel and participation at scientific symposia and high-profile partnering and networking meetings, as well as establishing relationships within the global drug development and partnering communities. The successful applicant will be responsible for driving the Business Development and Licensing function and will utilise their strong network to maximise the commercial value of the assets through a variety of deal structures with in-licensing partners.
Essential Criteria:
- A strong scientific background (minimum BSc, ideally PhD in a relevant scientific subject) and experience in a research-driven environment.
- Experience working in Biotech / Pharma and/or consultancies in a BD&L role that incorporates an out-licensing focus.
- A track record of success in executing out-licensing, partnership and collaboration-type deals with early-stage assets in oncology and other therapeutic areas.
- A good understanding of drug discovery processes for both small molecule and protein-based modalities.
Desirable Criteria:
- Business qualification (i.e. MBA).
- Experience across oncology early-stage assets.
- Previous experience within an international setting.
