Main duties of the job

We are looking for one GP to join our team at Alma Medical Centre. The post involves general medical services with 6 sessions per week (days per week negotiable; must ensure good cover for patients through the week, including Mondays & Fridays). Based at Alma Medical Centre with support of a well established traditional list holding team of GPs. Post-holder will be available for surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, home visits, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, and dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion. Responsible for making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Job responsibilities

  • Assess health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Collect data for audit purposes.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate.
  • Execute all normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
  • Ensure awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies and guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.
  • Commit to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
  • Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development and summarising of patient records and Read‑Coding patient data.
  • Attend training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Qualified GP MRCGP Vocational Training Certificate or equivalent (JCPTGP)
  • General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
  • Full GMC Registration
  • National Performers List registration
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

Experience

  • Experience of working in a GP practice and in primary care.
  • Experience with SystmOne (or similar EPR system).
  • Fully registered on a performers list and not suspended from that list or the medical register.
  • Eligible for the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975; disclosure and barring service check required.
