Job Description
Allye Energy is revolutionising the energy storage sector with our cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) built using repurposed EV batteries. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Prototype Build and Assembly Manager to lead our build operations team and undertak the assembly of prototype systems and production builds. This is a hands-on, technical role that is critical to ensuring our products are manufactured to the highest standards whilst driving continuous improvement in our build processes and team capabilities.
Job Description
Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Assembly Technicians, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Plan and allocate resources effectively to meet build schedules and project milestones.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and identify training needs within the team.
- Drive team engagement and maintain high morale in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Build Operations and Process Management
- Lead the assembly of mechanical and electrical sub-assemblies from prototype through to production specifications.
- Complete full BESS builds, ensuring consistency, quality, adherence to engineering specifications.
- Develop, implement, maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Bill of Process (BOP).
- Drive lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives to optimise build efficiency and quality
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Ensure all builds meet stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements, including UN38.3, ADR compliance, and CE/UKCA marking considerations.
- Implement and maintain quality control processes, including inspection and functional testing.
- Lead root cause analysis activities for build-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive build records, traceability documentation, and quality metrics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, R&D, and Design teams to support prototype development and design validation activities.
- Provide manufacturability feedback, ensuring designs are optimised for efficient assembly.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Procurement to ensure component availability and quality.
- Interface with Health & Safety teams to maintain the highest safety standards in all build activities
Project and Resource Management
- Plan and execute build schedules to support engineering milestones and customer delivery.
- Manage build budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning.
- Identify and implement process improvements to reduce build times and costs at quality.
- Coordinate with facilities to ensure optimal workspace layout and equipment availability.
Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
- Deep experience in a technical manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 5 years' in manufacturing operations, at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proven experience in mechanical and electrical assembly operations, preferably in automotive, energy storage, or related high-tech industries.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems, lean manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with prototype builds and low-volume manufacturing in an R&D or startup environment.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
Highly Desirable:
- High Voltage (HV) certification - IMI Level 4 in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement or equivalent.
- Experience with HV battery systems, BMS, and thermal management
- Knowledge of regulatory standards including UN38.3, ADR, CE/UKCA marking, and safety regs.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, digital work instructions, and manufacturing execution systems.
- Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar process improvement certification.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, and test equipment requirements.
- Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail.
