Engineering Program Manager (Battery Energy Storage)

We are seeking a dynamic Engineering Program Manager to lead our engineering project management function and drive the technical development of the Allye MAX battery energy storage systems. This is a hands‑on engineering leadership role where you will build and manage a team of project engineers whilst maintaining direct involvement in technical decision‑making and system development.
As the engineering program leader, you will coordinate all activities across multiple engineering disciplines, external stakeholders, and manufacturing partners. You\’ll have full program autonomy to define requirements, lead cross‑functional engineering teams, and drive overall project delivery from concept through to series production.
RESPONSIBILITIES Engineering Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and develop a team of project engineers responsible for coordinating engineering activities across battery systems, platforms, and integration projects
- Provide technical mentorship and career development for project engineering team members
- Establish engineering project management best practices, processes, and standards
- Drive engineering excellence through design reviews, technical assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives
Program & Project Management
- Own end‑to‑end program delivery of the Allye MAX range of Battery Energy Storage Systems
- Manage multiple concurrent engineering projects from concept through manufacturing scale‑up
- Accountable for program quality, delivery timelines, cost targets, feature development, technology roadmaps, and risk mitigation
- Coordinate complex workstreams across internal teams and external stakeholders
- Monitor project progress using engineering metrics and KPIs, implementing corrective actions when needed
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop robust mitigation strategies
Technical Engineering Oversight
- Develop comprehensive functional and non‑functional requirements at system and subsystem levels
- Lead system architecture definition and ensure alignment with program objectives
- Make critical engineering trade‑off decisions in major component selection and technology choices
- Oversee technical design reviews and approval processes for systems, subsystems, and components
- Drive battery integration strategies, thermal management solutions, and power electronics optimisation
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, grid codes (G99), and regulatory requirements
Stakeholder Management & Documentation
- Collaborate with suppliers and project partners to ensure on‑time, quality delivery of engineering solutions
- Interface with manufacturing teams to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation including specifications, DFMEAs, test plans, and validation protocols
- Manage engineering design release processes and change control procedures
- Implement cost tracking, Bill of Materials (BoM) optimization, and weight management reporting
- Present technical program updates to executive leadership and key stakeholders
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (Master\’s preferred)
- 3-5 years managing battery or EV projects in automotive industry
- 5+ years of hands‑on engineering experience in battery systems, energy storage
- 3+ years of technical team leadership experience managing project engineers
- Strong understanding of battery technologies, BMS design, power conversion etc
- Experience with system‑level engineering, requirements management, and validation
- Track record of delivering complex engineering programs from concept to production
- Experience with engineering project management tools and frameworks (GANTT charts, risk management, V‑model development, change control)
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with engineering decision‑making
- Excellent communication with ability to translate technical concepts to audiences
- Experience with compliance frameworks and regulatory environments
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and cost
Highly Desirable
- Advanced degree in engineering or related technical field
- Grid connection and G99/grid code compliance experience
- Power electronics and inverter technology background
- Automotive or aerospace program management experience
- Experience with circular economy principles and second‑life battery applications
- Software integration and IoT connectivity knowledge for smart energy systems
