Allye Energy is revolutionising the energy storage sector with our cutting‑edge Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) built using repurposed EV batteries. We are seeking a Commissioning Specialist to join our Test & Commissioning team. Working alongside our Lead Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for hands‑on commissioning and testing of our Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), ensuring each unit meets performance and safety requirements before deployment. This is a practical, execution‑focused role that bridges software and electrical disciplines.
You will run commissioning test scripts, verify electrical installations, collect and interpret test data, and make pass/fail judgements. While you won’t be writing software, you need to be comfortable working with software systems, interpreting their outputs, and understanding how they interact with the hardware. The ideal candidate combines electrical competence with software literacy and a methodical, detail‑oriented approach. You’ll work both in our workshop and at customer sites, ensuring our systems are commissioned safely and perform as designed.
Responsibilities- Execute commissioning test scripts and software validation procedures
- Configure and verify control system parameters, communication settings, and alarm thresholds
- Perform system integration checks between BMS, EMS, inverters, and monitoring platforms
- Verify data logging, remote connectivity, and cloud platform integration
- Support firmware updates and software configuration changes during commissioning
- Perform pre‑commissioning electrical checks including breaker operation, CT clamp installation, and wiring verification
- Verify correct installation of protection devices, isolation points, and safety systems
- Conduct insulation resistance testing, continuity checks, and earth fault loop impedance tests
- Support energisation procedures and system power‑up sequences
- Ensure test equipment is correctly configured and calibrated for accurate data collection
- Collect, review, and interpret commissioning test data to determine pass/fail outcomes
- Identify anomalies, discrepancies, and issues requiring escalation to engineering
- Complete commissioning checklists, test reports, and handover documentation
- Maintain accurate records of test results, configuration settings, and as‑commissioned states
- Provide feedback to improve test procedures and commissioning processes
- Conduct factory acceptance testing (FAT) on systems prior to dispatch
- Travel to customer sites to perform site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning
- Follow health and safety procedures, including safe isolation and lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO) protocols
- Coordinate with installation contractors and site personnel during commissioning activities
- Relevant electrical qualification (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent) or demonstrable experience
- 2+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or a related technical role
- Comfortable working with software systems, running scripts, and interpreting software outputs
- Practical experience with electrical test equipment: multimeters, insulation testers, power analysers, oscilloscopes
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and single‑line diagrams
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to interpret data and make sound pass/fail judgements
- Methodical, process‑driven approach with excellent documentation habits
- Good communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with engineers and site teams
- Willingness to travel to customer sites across the UK (occasional international travel may be required)
- Full UK driving licence
- Experience with battery energy storage systems, solar PV, or grid‑connected power systems
- Familiarity with BMS, EMS, SCADA, or industrial control systems
- Experience with communication protocols: Modbus, CAN bus, Ethernet/IP
- HV/LV switching authorisation or experience with high‑voltage systems
- ECS/CSCS card or equivalent site competency certification
- Basic scripting or command‑line experience (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Experience with data logging, time‑series data, or monitoring platforms
