The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Project Engineer to take water treatment projects from initial scope through design, manufacture, installation and commissioning.

You’ll combine hands‑on engineering judgement with responsibility for programme, budget, quality and safety. Working closely with customers, suppliers and colleagues, you’ll translate process requirements into practical systems and coordinate the work needed to deliver them successfully.

You’ll join a team of experienced and graduate project engineers, design engineers, workshop engineers and project support colleagues. The role offers the opportunity to see your designs become working systems, solve varied engineering challenges and contribute to the development of others.

The position is primarily based at our Cheddar office, with travel to customer and supplier sites.

What You’ll Do

Define the project

Establish scope, deliverables, performance requirements and acceptance criteria with customers, statutory requirements and internal teams.

Develop the engineering

Produce and coordinate designs, drawings, specifications and bills of materials, ensuring systems meet customer, operational and applicable regulatory requirements.

Prepare project schedules, resource plans and work packs covering manufacture, installation and commissioning.

Control costs

Develop and monitor budgets, track expenditure and commitments, and identify potential overruns early.

Coordinate people and suppliers

Organise the contributions of engineers, workshop colleagues, contractors and suppliers, keeping responsibilities and deadlines clear.

Manage progress and risk

Resolve technical and delivery issues, maintain visibility of project risks and take timely action to protect safety, quality, cost and programme.

Control changes

Assess the technical, financial and scheduling impact of scope changes, securing agreement and maintaining clear records.

Communicate clearly

Keep customers, management and colleagues informed of progress, decisions and any support required.

Support installation and commissioning

Coordinate site activities, testing and resolution of outstanding issues so systems meet agreed requirements.

Complete the handover

Ensure project documentation, operating information and customer training requirements are addressed, supporting a smooth transition to the customer and service team.

Contribute to project reviews, share lessons learned and support the development of less experienced engineers.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental or a related Engineering discipline
  • Experience of managing engineering projects within the water treatment domain.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in various software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience of engineering drawing packages such as AUTOCAD
  • Excellent spacial reasoning and ability to view data in two or three-dimensions
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical and logical thinking skills and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work calmly in emergency and high-pressure situations
  • Ability to lead and develop others
  • Familiarity with government regulation and safety measures
  • Full driving licence

Useful Additional Experience

  • Project management methodologies and planning tools.
  • Installation, commissioning and performance testing of water treatment systems.
  • Laboratory or pilot-scale studies used to assess treatment options and inform system design.
