Fleet Engineer
Join Alltruck as our next Fleet Engineer
Are you an experienced HGV engineering pro who knows how to spot a technical issue before it becomes a customer headache? Do you enjoy getting under the skin of supplier performance, challenging poor standards, and using your judgement to keep vehicles safe, reliable, and earning?
If that sounds like your kind of challenge, Alltruck could be your next big move.
About us
At Alltruck, our values shape the way we work. We’re committed, progressive, passionate, and proactive — and we believe in creating an environment where our people can flourish. Our culture is built around a practical, positive “can do” attitude, with teams who are trusted, engaged, and empowered to do great work.
Based from our head office in Leicester, we’re a market leader in truck and van rental, contract hire, fleet management, commercial vehicle repair and maintenance, public sector fleet support, and Bodyshop repair services.
The mission
Your mission is simple — but seriously important: protect Alltruck’s customer promise and commercial performance by making sure our HGV fleet operates safely, reliably, cost-effectively, and to the highest engineering standards.
You’ll be the person who brings technical know-how, commercial sharpness, supplier confidence, and calm authority to the table. Whether you’re challenging a repair decision, negotiating with a supplier, supporting a customer conversation, or spotting a cost‑saving opportunity, you’ll help keep our fleet moving and our standards sky‑high.
What you’ll be getting stuck into
Supplier performance that actually performs.
You’ll establish, negotiate, and manage clear service levels with external maintenance providers, making sure quality, uptime, response times, cost control, and customer impact are always front and centre.
Technical standards that hold up under pressure.
You’ll use your HGV engineering expertise to assess repair quality, investigate recurring faults, validate technical recommendations, and prevent repeat failures before they become bigger problems.
Commercial control with backbone.
From pricing and warranty support to goodwill contributions and supplier commitments, you’ll negotiate confidently and protect Alltruck’s commercial position without compromising safety, compliance, or service quality.
Stakeholder confidence.
You’ll be a credible engineering voice for suppliers, customers, Account Management, Fleet, and senior colleagues — especially when things are complex, urgent, or need a steady hand.
Smarter ways of working.
You’ll use data, fleet systems, Microsoft Office tools, and appropriate AI‑enabled approaches to spot patterns, sharpen reporting, improve maintenance decisions, and make operations more efficient.
What we’re looking for
- Strong HGV engineering knowledge — ideally as a fully qualified HGV Technician with at least five years’ experience.
- A sharp eye for detail, with the ability to spot technical, commercial, and service risks early.
- Credibility, gravitas, and the confidence to challenge suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders constructively.
- Determination to follow issues through until they’re properly resolved.
- Commercial confidence, including the ability to negotiate fair value and challenge unnecessary cost.
- A collaborative, team‑first approach with strong ownership of engineering outcomes.
- Confidence using fleet systems, data, reporting tools, Microsoft Office, and AI‑enabled methods to improve decision‑making.
- A practical, positive, values‑led approach — committed, progressive, passionate, proactive, and ready to get stuck in.
- Flexibility to support out‑of‑hours breakdown cover and the Saturday rota, currently around one Saturday per quarter.
You’ll love this role if…
- You like solving real‑world engineering problems, not just talking about them.
- You can balance technical standards, customer experience, compliance, and commercial reality.
- You’re comfortable having honest conversations when service levels, costs, or repair quality aren’t good enough.
- You know how to build strong relationships without becoming a pushover.
- You get a kick out of using data and systems to make things cleaner, smarter, and more efficient.
Ready to make an impact?
If you’re ready to bring your HGV expertise, commercial confidence, and can‑do energy to a business that values quality, accountability, and great customer service, we’d love to hear from you.
