Your role in the team
Join Allstate for a 12‑month placement where you’ll gain hands‑on experience across the software development lifecycle. As part of a fast‑growing team, placements benefit from training, mentorship and everyday coaching.
Key Responsibilities
(Please note these are responsibilities you will be given exposure to over the 12-month placement)
- Analyze code to explain and identify possible issues with created code
- Accurately document design and code fixes for all created code to memorialize fixes and dependencies according to established standards
- Analyze design materials and contribute solutions in design reviews to ensure designs meet requirements
- Analyze detailed business, functional, and high‑level technical requirements—including technical recovery, security, and audit—to identify the need for, and assist with, the roll‑back of units of work
- Proactively work with more senior developers and project managers to ensure appropriate time is allocated to assigned tasks.
- Create and execute unit code tests
- Prepare accurate data for test plan and modules; participate in testing reviews
- Gain familiarity and provide technical support to track and resolve simple to intermediate defects
- Generate code work for simple to intermediate changes, enhancements, and modules according to specifications, documentation and development standards. Ensure project artifacts are ready for promotion to production.
Essential Skills
- All candidates must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy
- Expected to complete second year of a relevant IT related degree course by end June 2026 (or third year for relevant IT degrees).
- Candidates must be currently sitting on a 2.1 average to date or a Commendation, if completing a master’s degree.
- Applicants must provide a full list of module marks from their first year and any current year to date at application stage. Failure to do so, will result in the withdrawal of the application.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Availability to travel to the US if required.
Placement Students who successfully complete their one-year placement with Allstate Northern Ireland may be made conditional offers of permanent employment with Allstate at the end of their placement. These positions will commence post‑graduation and will be subject to the student securing a minimum 2.1 classification in their IT degree or a Commendation in their Master’s Degree.
