Your role in the team:
As part of Allstate's future growth plans, we are excited to offer this opportunity to talented individuals looking for a new challenge. In this role, the Engineer serves as a member of the new Allstate Representative Placement Service (ARPS) product team in the PLT area. The team is tasked with creating a new PAAS-based Service for Agent assignments for ASC policies while supporting any Classic policies until migration is complete. The ARPS Service will be a modern Java / Spring Boot / PAAS hosted version of the existing Windows based Agent Assignment Service in production today.
The role requires the successful candidates to practice and be the champion of Outcome Based Delivery utilizing Continuous Integration & Deployment practices. The Engineer develops applications following 12-factor principles to build out products through continual enhancements using a full stack of software products. In the role you will leverage test driven development, CI/CD, and Allstate developed tools and frameworks to ensure the timely delivery of the new ARPS Product. The Engineer will actively participate in the decision-making process of the Product Teams helping ensure that the most appropriate technology and relevant design is chosen to meet user needs with maintainability and reusability, while working with other team members to create an environment of continuous learning, and constantly challenging and stretching the knowledge of the team.
Key responsibilities:
- Participates in iteration planning meetings ensuring that the team has a common understanding of each story and chores in a team's backlog.
- Understands and can implement secure coding practices within products.
- Participate in executing the strategy, keeping the customer needs and wants in mind.
- Collaborates within the team in designing systems and apps.
- Participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups.
- Participates in retrospectives to gather feedback and derive actionable items to improve the team and the product.
- Support software products in user environments.
- Participates in knowledge sharing, and contributes to the overall growth of the collective knowledge of the team.
- Practices daily paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products.
- Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices.
Essential Skills:
- All applicants must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy.
- A minimum of 3+ years of working with Java and Spring Boot.
- Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for distributed applications.
- Experience applying Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices and using testing frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, or equivalent testing technologies.
- Experience working within Agile product teams and contributing to technical design and architecture discussions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to deliver scalable and maintainable solutions.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience developing applications using C#.
- Experience with backend system design and implementation, including: Oracle, MongoDB, SQL databases.
- Experience developing and consuming APIs and working with LDS/MFE solutions.
- Experience deploying and supporting applications hosted on AWS.
- Experience working with Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments.
- Ability to work effectively across organizational, geographical, and cross-functional boundaries.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise applications.
