Your role in the team involves leading the design and evolution of our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation capabilities across a hybrid environment that includes on-premise platforms. This role will focus on enabling engineering teams through scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure solutions, while supporting the modernization of legacy environments.
The ideal candidate brings strong and proven automation experience, combined with the ability to operate within a large, regulated enterprise and partner effectively across infrastructure, security, and network teams. This role leads the transformation of infrastructure through automation and Infrastructure as Code, enabling scalable, secure, and hybrid platforms that support enterprise modernization in a regulated environment.
Work Environment: This role operates within a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment. The Managing Engineer must be comfortable balancing technical leadership, team management, and partnership with cross-functional teams to support enterprise-wide platforms and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform & Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of infrastructure engineers in defining and executing the IaC and platform automation strategy aligned with enterprise modernization goals. Partner with application, security, network, and enterprise architecture teams. Drive adoption of engineering best practices, automation, and platform standardization.
- Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Lead the implementation and scaling of Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, PowerShell, or equivalent. Develop and maintain reusable modules and templates for on-prem infrastructure. Reduce manual provisioning through automation and self-service capabilities. Promote infrastructure as product mindset across teams.
- Cloud & Hybrid Platform Engineering: Enable and support infrastructure across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and on-prem environments. Support the transition toward cloud-first infrastructures and hybrid architecture patterns. Collaborate with infrastructure teams managing compute, storage, virtualization, and networking platforms.
- CI/CD, DevOps & Delivery Practices: Enhance and support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Enable teams to deliver infrastructure through versioned, tested, and auditable pipelines. Promote automation across the development and operations lifecycle.
- Operations, Reliability & Support: Improve platform observability, monitoring, and alerting capabilities. Support incident response and production issue resolution. Drive improvements in resiliency, uptime, and operational efficiency. Balance technical lifecycle activities with ongoing delivery needs.
- Security, Governance & Compliance: Incorporate security best practices such as least privilege access and secrets management. Ensure infrastructure aligns with enterprise governance and regulatory requirements. Partner with security and risk teams to enable secure-by-design platforms.
Essential Skills
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or platform engineering (or equivalent).
- 2 years or more of leadership or team management experience (or equivalent).
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform preferred).
- Experience working in cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure).
- Experience supporting or operating within a hybrid infrastructure environment.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control, and automation practices.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, or similar).
- Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, networking fundamentals, and distributed systems.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with on-prem infrastructure (e.g., VMware, data center environments) and automating (creating self-service) for highly requested services.
- Exposure to network and application delivery platforms (e.g., load balancers like F5, ALB, NLB) - partnership-level, not required expertise.
- Exposure to DNS infrastructure.
- Background in platform engineering or internal developer platforms.
- Exposure to cost optimization initiatives related to automating services.
