For more than 90 years, our innovative drive has kept us ahead of customers’ evolving needs.

Our focus includes advocacy for safety, pricing sophistication, telematics, and device and identity protection.

The Risk Engineering team designs, builds, and operates software products that support risk management and risk control across the ACC organization.

Product Risk Engineers own the full software development lifecycle and deliver scalable, reliable, user-friendly applications that help teams understand risk, manage control activity, automate workflows, and turn risk and control data into actionable outcomes.

Success in this role is measured through outcomes such as product adoption, system reliability, improved control execution, reduced manual effort, and meaningful support for risk reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate software products that support risk management, risk controls, control workflows, and TORC operational needs.
  • Own risk engineering product capabilities end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, integration, and ongoing operational support in production.
  • Write, test, and maintain high-quality production code across React front ends, Spring Boot services, SQL data layers, and supporting microservices.
  • Apply engineering best practices such as test-driven development, paired programming, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment.
  • Contribute to high-level and low-level system and component designs with a focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and effective risk control outcomes.
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt technologies, frameworks, and patterns that improve usability, performance, resilience, and automation of risk and control products.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, platform teams, control owners, and partner engineering groups to align product capabilities with ACC and enterprise risk needs.
  • Participate in agile delivery ceremonies and contribute to a culture of fast feedback, incremental delivery, continuous improvement, and strong production ownership.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production systems across the full software development lifecycle; hands-on proficiency in React, Java, and Spring Boot.
  • Minimum of 1 year of coaching or mentoring engineers, with evidence of improving technical capability across full-stack, microservices, or risk product delivery.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed systems, cloud-based applications, and microservices architectures.
  • Ability to design, develop, and integrate APIs, backend services, REST-based interfaces, SQL data stores, and event-driven components using technologies such as Kafka.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern development workflows and engineering practices such as TDD, paired programming, automated testing, code review, and CI/CD.
  • Experience collaborating effectively within agile delivery models with product managers, engineers, control owners, and partner teams to deliver risk-focused outcomes.
  • Proven ability to lead technical design and architecture decisions for complex, distributed systems, with measurable improvements in scalability, security, reliability, performance, or control effectiveness.
  • Track record of driving cross-team collaboration to deliver integrated risk and control products across multiple product portfolios and stakeholder groups.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of risk management, control management, compliance workflows, or technology risk concepts; ability to translate business needs into product capabilities.
  • Experience implementing or integrating authentication, authorization, RBAC, and identity-based access patterns.
  • Knowledge of secure software development, resilient service design, data protection, and testing patterns for business-critical apps.
  • Experience with containerized and cloud-native environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Exposure to large language models (LLMs), AI concepts, or systems with AI-driven capabilities to improve productivity or risk insight generation.
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
  • Commitment to balancing engineering quality, risk control, operational resilience, and user experience.

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned.
