This role is responsible for leading the development of end-to-end data-driven solutions, from data collection and model development to deployment and maintenance of business-facing inference services. The ideal candidate will have experience designing and implementing cloud-based solutions, optimizing data models for cloud performance, and maintaining scalable predictive systems. This role will collaborate across teams to establish best practices and reusable components, ensuring consistent and high-quality execution of analytic products that serve the business. As a technical leader, you will drive the development and deployment of machine learning solutions, with a focus on observability, security, and efficient cloud utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies languages and tools that can bring efficiencies or needed techniques to the team.
  • Identifies new areas of data, research and models and develops data sources that can solve business problems.
  • Utilizes effective project planning techniques to break down complex machine learning/predictive modelling and/or development projects into tasks, manage scope of projects, and ensure deadlines are kept.
  • Manages various analytical and modelling projects with a small number of team members.
  • Mentors and develops others.
  • Uses best practices to develop complex statistical, machine learning techniques to build models that address business needs and to improve the accuracy of our data and data-driven decisions.
  • Reviews, evaluates, communicates, and makes recommendations on appropriateness of modelling techniques and results to team, leadership, and stakeholders to ensure these are well understood and incorporated into business processes.
  • Develops and executes communication strategy, keeping stakeholders informed and influencing business partners and senior leaders on the effectiveness of machine learning/predictive modelling to solve business problems.
  • Collaborates with outside business units and works on data and complex business problems to improve the effectiveness of business decisions and business results through designing, building, and partnering to implement machine learning/predictive models.
  • Effectively understands the business problems and requirements to identify the optimal modelling approach.
  • Develops frameworks/prototypes that integrate data and machine learning/predictive modelling to make business decisions.

Essential Criteria:

  • All candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK. Allstate is unable to provide sponsorship for this position.
  • 3+ years’ experience in building and optimizing cloud-based machine learning systems, in industry or postgraduate position(s).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least one major cloud provider.
  • Experience with modern data science tools and libraries (e.g., Python, R, SQL, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks to provision and manage cloud resources.
  • Experience using CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), observability tools, and cloud security practices.
  • Certification from at least one major cloud provider.
  • A degree of any level in a quantitative field such as mathematics, physics or computer science with classification of 2.1 or higher (or equivalent).
