Your role in the team
The Risk Engineering team is responsible for designing, building, and operating software products that support risk management and risk control capabilities across the ACC organization. The team applies modern software engineering practices to create scalable, reliable, and user‑friendly applications that help teams understand risk, manage control activity, automate workflows, and turn risk and control data into actionable outcomes.
Product Risk Engineers are full‑stack software engineers who own the full software development lifecycle — from design and implementation through deployment and production support. They build and maintain production applications using modern front‑end, back‑end, data, and event‑driven technologies, and are accountable for the reliability, usability, adoption, and effectiveness of the products they deliver. Success in this role is measured through outcomes such as product adoption, system reliability, improved control execution, reduced manual effort, and meaningful support for risk reduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate software products that support risk management, risk controls, control workflows, and TORC operational needs.
- Own risk engineering product capabilities end‑to‑end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, integration, and ongoing operational support in production.
- Write, test, and maintain high‑quality production code across React front ends, Spring Boot services, SQL data layers, and supporting microservices.
- Apply engineering best practices such as test‑driven development, paired programming, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment.
- Contribute to high‑level and low‑level system and component designs with a focus on scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, and effective risk control outcomes.
- Continuously evaluate and adopt technologies, frameworks, and patterns that improve the usability, performance, resilience, and automation of risk and control products.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, platform teams, control owners, and partner engineering groups to align product capabilities with ACC and enterprise risk needs.
- Participate in agile delivery ceremonies and contribute to a culture of fast feedback, incremental delivery, continuous improvement, and strong production ownership.
Essential Skills
- All applicants must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy.
- 3+ years of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production systems throughout the full software development lifecycle and hands‑on proficiency in React, Java, and Spring Boot.
- Hands‑on experience designing, building, and operating scalable distributed systems, cloud‑based applications, and microservices architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and integrate APIs, backend services, REST‑based interfaces, SQL data stores, and event‑driven components using technologies such as Kafka.
- Strong working knowledge of modern development workflows and engineering practices such as test‑driven development, paired programming, automated testing, code review, and continuous integration and deployment.
- Experience collaborating effectively within agile delivery models, working closely with product managers, engineers, control owners, and partner teams to deliver risk‑focused product outcomes.
Desirable Skills
- Working knowledge of risk management, control management, compliance workflows, or technology risk concepts, with the ability to translate business needs into effective product capabilities.
- Experience implementing or integrating authentication, authorization, role‑based access controls, and identity‑based access patterns within applications and services.
- Knowledgeable in secure software development practices, resilient service design, data protection, and testing patterns for business‑critical applications.
- Practical exposure to containerized and cloud‑native environments, including Docker, Kubernetes, and public cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
- Exposure to large language models (LLMs), machine learning concepts, or systems that incorporate AI‑driven capabilities to improve productivity, automation, or risk insight generation.
- Ability to leverage AI‑assisted development tools such as Copilot or Cursor responsibly to improve developer productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Demonstrated commitment to building solutions that balance strong engineering quality, robust risk control outcomes, operational resilience, and an excellent user experience.
