As a cook, you will provide healthy and varied hot meals to guests at ASLAN Faith and Volunteer Network Night Shelter. Your role will involve menu development, ingredient sourcing, preparation and freezing of meals for distribution to volunteers each evening.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Plan and design a dinner menu for 25 guests each night in consultation with the shelter manager
  • Order, organise and receive delivery of food supplies
  • Prep and prepare meals that can be frozen for evening service
  • Adapt menus to accommodate individual allergies and dietary requirements
  • Cook a range of dishes from scratch, including mains, soups and desserts
  • Assess required food volume and prepare meals accordingly
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and complete required documentation (recording fridge, freezer and pantry temperatures)
  • Maintain cleanliness of the storage pantry
  • Manage food storage, monitor expiration dates and dispose of waste appropriately
  • Work alongside volunteers and staff to support a working environment in line with the vision of ASSTC
