Salary: £15.88 per hour (plus 12.07 holiday pay)

Location: 141 Cleveland Street, London W1T 6QG

Hours: 14-21 hours per week (2-3 days per week, ideally Thursday, Friday and one other day)

As a cook, you will provide healthy and varied hot meals to guests at ASLAN Faith and Volunteer Network Night Shelter. Your role will involve menu development, ingredient sourcing, preparation and freezing of meals for distribution to volunteers each evening.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Plan and design a dinner menu for 25 guests each night in consultation with the shelter manager
  • Order, organise and receive delivery of food supplies
  • Prep and prepare meals that can be frozen for evening service
  • Adapt menus to accommodate individual allergies and dietary requirements
  • Cook a range of dishes from scratch, including mains, soups and desserts
  • Assess required food volume and prepare meals accordingly
  • Maintain kitchen hygiene and complete required documentation (recording fridge, freezer and pantry temperatures)
  • Maintain cleanliness of the storage pantry
  • Manage food storage, monitor expiration dates and dispose of waste appropriately
  • Work alongside volunteers and staff to support a working environment in line with the vision of ASSTC

  • Trained and certified in relevant hygiene training (or willing to obtain it)
  • Experienced cooking in an industrial kitchen

  • Living experience of homelessness

Other Duties

  • Adhere to data protection regulations and code of conduct when handling sensitive data or information
  • Agree to undergo safer recruitment training, including safeguarding training and an enhanced DBS check if interacting with service users
  • Agree to adhere to the rules and regulations regarding kitchen use
  • Understand the role and limitations of responsibilities; refrain from undertaking tasks outside this role
  • Other duties assigned within scope of the role
