Role Description
The Parents and Carers Service Support Worker is a part‑time, on‑site role based in Brighton.
This role focuses on supporting parents and carers of LGBT+ children and young people through group sessions, one‑to‑one support, and signposting to appropriate services.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities include helping to plan and facilitate parents and carers groups, assisting with outreach and engagement activities, and maintaining clear, accurate records of contacts and support provided.
The role also involves collaborating closely with colleagues across youth, family, and training services to ensure families receive joined‑up, holistic support.
The Support Worker will contribute to creating welcoming, safe, and inclusive spaces, and may assist with evaluations, feedback collection, and basic administrative tasks that support the delivery and improvement of the service.
Qualifications
- Ability to provide empathetic, non‑judgmental support to parents, carers, and families, particularly those of LGBT+ children and young people.
- Experience facilitating or assisting groups, workshops, or support sessions in community, social care, or youth settings.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal communication, and accurate written record‑keeping.
- Understanding of issues affecting LGBT+ children, young people, and their families, and commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Organizational skills to manage time effectively, coordinate multiple tasks, and maintain confidential documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and build positive relationships with external partners and services.
