As a Made in Britain certified brand, we design and manufacture all products in-house, combining craftsmanship with innovation. Sustainability is central to our approach, from material selection (including mycelium and hemp) to energy efficiency and low-emission production.
As we scale, we are looking to appoint a Head of Design to lead and evolve our design function.
The Role
This is a senior leadership position and part of the management team, responsible for shaping product strategy, driving innovation, and building a scalable design function. You will lead both product development and applications design, ensuring we deliver market-leading products while supporting project-based work efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Strategy & Innovation
- Define and lead the product roadmap
- Identify market opportunities and gaps in the product range
- Drive innovation aligned with architectural and interior design trends
- Evaluate how bespoke project demand can inform future products
- Lead product development from concept through to manufacture
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and refinement
- Ensure products are commercially viable, manufacturable, and design-led
- Work with sales and marketing to successfully launch new products
- Lead and develop the design team, including Product and Applications Designers
- Define clear roles, responsibilities, and workflows
- Build a scalable design function aligned with business growth
- Oversee project-based design output supporting the sales team
- Ensure high-quality drawings, layouts, and technical documentation
- Establish clear boundaries to protect time for product development
- Work closely with sales, marketing, and operations
- Align product development with customer demand and commercial strategy
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure efficient and scalable production
- Contribute to business strategy as part of the management team
- Support growth through improved product offering and increased specification
About You
- Proven experience in product design within commercial interiors, furniture, or related sectors
- Experience leading or mentoring a design team
- Strong understanding of specification-led sales (architects/interior designers)
- Ability to balance innovation with commercial and manufacturing realities
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on in a growing business
- Strong CAD and technical design understanding
Desirable
- Experience in acoustic products or interior systems
- Interest in sustainable materials and manufacturing
- Exposure to branding or product range development
What We Offer
- ~£60,000 – £80,000 salary (depending on experience)
