Clinical Teaching Fellow (ST3+ Eq) in Obs and Gynae

The post is structured as 80% undergraduate medical education and 20% clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology, allowing the successful candidate to play a significant role in teaching whilst continuing their clinical development. You will become an integral member of the Undergraduate Medical Education Team, delivering high-quality teaching to approximately 70 medical students from the University of Bristol Medical School who are placed within the acute hospital.

Teaching activities will include:

  • Case-based learning
  • Bedside teaching
  • Clinical skills teaching
  • Simulation-based education
  • Preparation of students for clinical practice and assessments

You will primarily teach Year 4 students undertaking placements within the Reproductive Health and Child Health Programme.

Student Assessment and Support

As part of the role, you will:

  • Formatively assess student performance and progression
  • Provide constructive feedback to support learning and development
  • Participate in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs)
  • Undertake workplace-based assessments, including: Mini-CEX Case-Based Discussions (CBDs) Clinical Skills Assessments

Educational and clinical supervision will be provided throughout the post.

Clinical Commitments

Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will maintain active clinical involvement within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department. The teaching role is combined with participation in the departmental on-call rota at a frequency of 1 in 8, providing ongoing exposure to both elective and acute Obstetrics & Gynaecology practice.

About You

Applicants should possess:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Registrar-level (2nd on-call) experience in General Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Competence in General Obstetrics & Gynaecology at ST3 level or above
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • The ability to identify and manage acutely unwell patients
  • Excellent communication, organisational and teamworking skills
  • An enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring and supporting the next generation of doctors
