Could you be the consistent support pupils with Autism and complex needs rely on each day? Are you looking for practical primary SEN experience before moving into teaching, educational psychology, or clinical psychology?

Work within the school’s SEN unit, supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs through structured classroom support, 1:1 work, and small-group intervention. You will help pupils follow routines, access learning, regulate behaviour, and build confidence, while working closely with teaching staff and the SENCO to monitor progress.

SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, and schools are expected to use the SEND Code of Practice when identifying needs, putting support in place, and reviewing impact.

  • You are calm, patient, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication.
  • You want meaningful school-based experience, can stay composed in a busy primary setting, and are interested in how structured support helps pupils with additional needs feel secure and make progress.
  • This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into teaching or psychology-related training.

Requirements

  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
