We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough. We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role: You’ll play a key role establishing and embedding a new HR & OD Front Door function, delivering a high-quality, customer-focused HR and OD service across Wigan Council and Schools. Working within our Front Door team, you’ll coordinate administrative activity, supervise HR&OD Support Assistants, and provide expert advice and support on employee queries. You will explore ways in which we can do things differently, use data and insight to drive service improvement, and identify and drive opportunities for automation and streamlining workflows. You’ll work closely with managers, schools, specialist HR & OD colleagues and external partners, helping to ensure our services are efficient, responsive and aligned to the needs of the organisation.

About you: You’ll be a highly organised and proactive professional with experience co-ordinating and streamlining administrative activity in a fast-paced environment. You’ll have strong communication, problem-solving and analytical skills, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities and build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have confidence with using data, digital systems and reporting tools, and have a natural flare for innovation and streamlining processes. Most importantly, you’ll be passionate about delivering excellent customer service, driving continuous improvement and championing inclusion and collaboration.

About us: Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations. The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them. You’ll join a forward thinking HR & OD service at an exciting point of transformation, helping shape a modern, people centred offer that supports our workforce and communities to flourish. Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE Awards and is proud to champion the Progress with Unity plan, a place based movement for change across the borough. We are committed to building an inclusive workforce where everyone feels they belong and can thrive. It’s a great opportunity to build a rewarding career while making a meaningful contribution to the organisation and our communities.

Working Arrangements: The contractual hours for this post will be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the role and the service. Work will be carried out across Council buildings and/or community venues across the borough. It is our priority to ensure that the role is fulfilled effectively and while there is flexibility to work from home when service delivery allows, the expectation is that staff will attend the workplace for a minimum of two days per week. However, depending on service requirements, you may be required to work your full contractual hours on site at Council buildings and/or Community Venues.

To be appointed to this role you must be able to prove your right to work in the UK, and you must maintain a valid (active) right to work. Please note, at present we are not a licenced sponsor.
