The role.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste Minimisation Officer to join our Recycling and Waste Team. The Team are responsible for delivering an award winning and innovative, open, fair and green service to the residents of North Somerset .
In this role, you will be delivering recycling and waste advice and support to residents. You will be required to carry out a range of technical and advisory activities working within existing procedures and routines with limited supervision. You will require a thorough knowledge and understanding of the work processes to support the team, work unsupervised much of the time and resolve technical and process problems and queries, with readily available advice from managers.
Key responsibilities:
- Working as part of a team to increase recycling participation.
- Engaging and supporting residents to reduce their waste.
- Undertaking inspections, monitoring and enforcement.
- Being able to work on own initiative and be able to plan day-to-day work load.
- Providing general support to the Recycling & Waste Team as required.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.
Work style.

However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office.
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
