Adult Speech and Language Therapist | Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service.
This varied role spans both our Community Team and specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Centre, providing a diverse caseload of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from stroke, acquired brain injury, progressive neurological conditions, dementia, voice disorders and dysfluency.
As part of our integrated service, which covers acute care, stroke, inpatient neurological rehabilitation and community services, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced clinicians across a range of specialist areas.
The role offers excellent opportunities for professional development, clinical supervision and multidisciplinary working.
The successful candidate will provide assessment and intervention within inpatient neurological rehabilitation and community settings, including clinics, home visits and virtual appointments, ensuring care is delivered in the most appropriate setting to meet patient need.

- Manage a specialist caseload of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties across community and inpatient neurological rehabilitation settings.
- Undertake assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment of individuals with acquired and progressive neurological conditions, including stroke, acquired brain injury, dementia and other complex communication and swallowing disorders.
- Deliver intervention through a variety of settings, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, home visits and virtual appointments.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support rehabilitation, goal setting, discharge planning and patient-centred care.
- Provide advice, education and training to patients, families, carers and other healthcare professionals.
- Contribute to the management of patients with dysphagia, utilising specialist clinical skills and knowledge to support safe and effective care.
- Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant clinical records and reports in accordance with professional and Trust standards.
- Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development, audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support and supervise Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, students and less experienced colleagues as appropriate.

We value our staff and see clinical supervision as a priority both through senior supervision and peer support models.
Annual appraisal and personal objective setting is a Trust priority.
The post-holders will work closely with the Speech and Language Therapy team and the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with acquired communication and swallowing needs and demonstrating effective clinical practice through continued learning, reflective practice and supervision.
The post-holders will also be involved in providing support for more junior members of the team including newly qualified SLTs and SLTAs.
