Primary Teaching Assistant – Flexible supply roles, day-to-day and short-term opportunities. These flexible opportunities are ideal for Primary Teaching Assistants who enjoy variety and want to make a positive impact across different primary school settings. Working on supply allows Primary Teaching Assistants to support pupils across a range of year groups, gain experience in different classroom environments, and maintain flexibility while contributing to pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
Duties as Primary Teaching Assistant:
- Support class teachers with day-to-day classroom activities across EYFS, KS1, and KS2
- Work with individuals and small groups to reinforce learning and support progress
- Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources, and daily routines
- Promote positive behaviour and support pupils’ social and emotional development
- Provide additional support for pupils with SEND where required
- Encourage pupil engagement, independence, and confidence in learning
- Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
- Support playground, lunchtime, and transition activities when needed
- Provide feedback to teachers regarding pupil progress and engagement
- Represent Step Teachers professionally while working as a Primary Teaching Assistant
Ideal Primary Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working as a Primary Teaching Assistant or in a primary school setting
- A positive, patient, and supportive approach to working with children
- Confidence supporting pupils across different age groups and abilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility and reliability when working on supply
- A proactive and adaptable attitude to classroom support
