Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Ophthalmologist, with a special interest in cornea and ocular surface disease. The successful applicant will support the development of the keratoconus service and support the ocular surface, acute eye services and will have the opportunity to provide consultant level cataract and ocular surface surgery, depending on the experience of the applicant. An interest in ocular surface oncology would be advantageous.

The post is offered for 12 months in the first instance, pending formal substantive appointment. There is no on-call commitment with this fixed-term post. When the substantive post is advertised, the job plan will include involvement in the SWL ophthalmology regional on-call rota, based at St George’s Hospital.

The post is based at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, which is a large Trust serving South West London and Surrey and part of the St George's, Epsom and St Helier Hospital Group (GESH). The Corneal and Ocular surface service provides clinics at St Helier hospital and Epsom General hospital. The Acute Eye service is based at the St Helier site. Epsom and St Helier Trust is part of the South West London Ophthalmology Network, with its out of hours and on-call service based at Moorfields at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The successful candidate will join a team of 14 Consultants with dedicated subspecialty interests. There is one theatre list per week with this post. This post is for a part-time Fixed term Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in cornea and ocular surface disease. The post holder will work alongside the wider cornea and acute eye service team.

The post holder will be required to work across both sites and the role may change depending on service needs. There is no on-call commitment within this 6.5 PA job plan, but there may be an opportunity to increase PAs in the future to include on-call commitments.
