Production Manager β Dust Control Systems 35.5 hours/week
We are seeking an experienced, organised, and proactive Production Manager to lead our manufacturing operations specialising in dust control and environmental systems.
Based in Wakefield, this role is responsible for managing the day-to-day production activities, ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards while driving continuous improvement across the workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the fabrication and manufacturing workshop, ensuring production targets, quality standards and delivery deadlines are achieved.
- Plan and schedule production activities to maximise efficiency, machine utilisation and labour resources.
- Lead, motivate and develop the production team, promoting high standards of workmanship, accountability and teamwork.
- Oversee the operation of CNC fibre laser cutting machine, press brake, welding equipment and general fabrication machinery, ensuring they are operated safely and efficiently whilst also operating the laser, press brake and fabrication equipment alongside other operatives whilst the production facility grows and develops.
- Ensure all machinery is correctly maintained, serviced and calibrated, coordinating preventative maintenance to minimise downtime.
- Monitor production performance, identifying bottlenecks and implementing improvements to increase productivity, reduce waste and improve quality.
- Ensure fabricated components are manufactured to engineering drawings, specifications and company quality standards.
- Manage material flow throughout the workshop, ensuring raw materials, bought-out items and finished products are available when required.
- Work closely with Engineering, Purchasing and Contracts teams to ensure projects progress smoothly from design through manufacture to installation.
- Develop and improve workshop processes, layouts and manufacturing methods to support business growth.
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, PUWER requirements, COSHH requirements and company procedures.
- Maintain safe systems of work for all workshop equipment including lifting equipment, forklift trucks and fabricatio n machinery.
- Monitor workshop housekeeping standards and ensure a clean, organised and efficient working environment.
- Manage stock levels of fabrication consumables including sheet steel, welding consumables, gases, fasteners and PPE.
- Investigate production issues and implement effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support recruitment, training, performance management and competency development of workshop personnel.
- Prepare production reports, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report manufacturing performance to senior management.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement using Lean manufacturing principles where appropriate.
