Trust Doctor (eqv tp ST1-ST2) in Urology | Barts Health NHS Trust

The Trust Doctor (ST1/2 Equivalent) in Urology will join the Urology Department at The Royal London Hospital, providing high-quality care to patients across a broad range of elective and emergency urological conditions.

Working under the supervision of Consultants and Specialist Registrars, the post holder will gain extensive clinical experience in inpatient, outpatient and theatre settings, while contributing to the day-to-day delivery of the service.

The role offers excellent opportunities to develop practical surgical and clinical skills, including exposure to endourology, flexible cystoscopy, lithotripsy, urodynamics and multidisciplinary working.

The successful candidate will work closely with consultants, nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals to ensure safe, patient-centred care, while actively participating in teaching, audit, research and continuous professional development within a supportive and dynamic department.

  • Provide day-to-day management of elective and emergency urology inpatients under the supervision of Consultants and Specialist Registrars.
  • Assess, investigate and manage patients presenting with a range of acute and chronic urological conditions.
  • Assist Consultants and Specialist Registrars during inpatient, day-case and emergency theatre procedures.
  • Participate in the pre-operative and post-operative management of surgical patients.
  • Attend outpatient clinics and support haematuria clinics and flexible cystoscopy services where required.
  • Manage ward and A&E referrals requiring urological input, with support from the on-call Sp R.
  • Prepare and present cases for Uro-Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
  • Liaise closely with anaesthetists, radiologists, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care.
  • Support nurse-led pre-admission clinics and assist with patient assessments where appropriate.
  • Participate in audit, morbidity and mortality meetings, journal clubs, teaching and quality improvement activities.
  • Contribute to research, service development and educational opportunities, including simulation training and specialist urology courses.
  • Comply with Trust policies, infection prevention standards and NHS values while maintaining accurate clinical documentation and delivering safe, compassionate patient care.
