Consultant - Paediatric Anaesthesia | Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in Truro

We are looking for a General Anaesthesia Consultant with an interest in Paediatrics. The Hospital is a major District General Hospital; a major trauma unit, a vascular centre, with comprehensive cancer services, providing over 30,000 anaesthetics per year, and over 4000 births, with over 750 beds. We have 27 operating theatres and anaesthesia delivery areas and 18 critical care beds, with further expansion planned. There is agreed government funding for a new Women and Children’s extension to the hospital to include obstetric theatres, 2 paediatric theatres and 2 further theatres.

The department provides care in line with the Trust's key values of Respect, Compassion, Honesty and Teamwork. Responsibilities include:

• Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of Anaesthesia.
• Sharing responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Anaesthetic department.
• Teaching and training of anaesthetists in training/resident doctors, and medical students where applicable.
• Ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
• Participating in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
• Participating in quality improvement, data analysis and information presentation, and service development, as appropriate.
• Attending care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate.
• Fulfilling duties of the weekly timetable, including any out-of-hours responsibilities.
• Delivering pre-operative assessment sessions.
