Working in both an inpatient and outpatient setting, the majority of the work of a Cardiographer will involve performing electrocardiograms (ECG’s) on patients requiring cardiac investigation. The ECG is a fundamental tool in the diagnosis of cardiac disease and a caring, professional manner is therefore an essential requirement.
Additional duties will include:
- Fitting & removal of ambulatory ECG and BP monitors
- Downloading information to patient databases
- Detailed logging of all investigations performed
- Maintenance of disposable stock levels
- Booking of patient appointments
The position of Cardiographer is very much team orientated although the ability to work independently and unsupervised is integral. A vital part of the role will involve travelling to various sites and working in both Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and Community Hospitals and Diagnostics Centres around the County.
The successful applicant will be committed to this pivotal role, have good inter-personal skills and ideally have experience of working with the general public. You must be able to travel independently between sites in your own vehicle. This is an opportunity for either full time or part time working. Core departmental hours are Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing quality electrocardiography (ECG) testing with basic interpretation skills
- Modifying ECG recording techniques, as directed, applicable to specific medical requirements e.g. rhythm strip records during performance of carotid sinus massage testing
- Fitting ambulatory 24 hour ECG monitors
- Taking a manual blood pressure (BP) record and fitting ambulatory BP monitors
- Fitting ECG event recorders
- Downloading ECG event records to PC database via trans-telephonic or manual means
