Personal Assistant / Support Worker – Troon, Ayrshire
Company: Ayrshire Independent Living Network (AILN)
I’m looking for one or more Personal Assistants / Support Workers to join my small team providing 1:1 support that helps me live independently. I’m a C5/6 quadriplegic, and while I need support with day-to-day things like getting up, showering, meals, and getting around, I’m fully independent in how I direct my care. This isn’t your usual “care job”, it’s relaxed, personal, and based on routine rather than rushing about.
This isn’t a high-pressure or medical-heavy role — it’s a calm, structured position where you’ll support me with daily living tasks and routines that I direct myself. Pay is £13.45 per hour.
Hours: Flexible – I prefer 12-hour shifts as a minimum, and I also run 24-hour shifts (typically 10am–10am). Those times (like 10am–6pm, 10am–10pm, etc.) are just examples, I can be flexible depending on what works best for both of us. If you’re local or can easily commute to Troon, that’s perfectly fine too. Overnight shifts include your own private room with a TV, storage, and fresh bedding, and most nights are quiet sleep shifts unless something urgent comes up.
You don’t need to be a professional carer, I’ll show you everything you need to know. What matters most is being patient, reliable, and easy to get along with. A sense of humour definitely helps!
Role Overview
- Supporting with morning and evening routines
- Personal care, showering, and dressing
- Meal preparation and mobility assistance
- Occasional light household tasks
- Providing support to maintain independence and routine
You’ll work directly with me. I’ll show you everything you need to know, so confidence and a willingness to learn are more important than experience.
About You
- Reliable, patient, and adaptable
- Easy-going and comfortable following direction
- Positive, with a good sense of humour
- Open to learning and genuinely wanting to help
Experience in care or support work is helpful but not essential; attitude and reliability matter most.
About Me
I’m independent, positive, and currently studying Environmental Science Management through the Open University. I’m involved in accessibility advocacy, adaptive sports, and community projects to improve independence for others. I enjoy working with people who are kind, proactive, and like being part of something meaningful.
