To provide an arboricultural maintenance service within the City of Hull to ensure trees on Council owned land are kept in a safe and technically sound condition.
Perform crown lifting and shaping operations to trees that have been indicated as requiring this work.
This includes substantially lifting the crown of the tree to aid passage of vehicles or pedestrians beneath the tree.
ROLE AND PURPOSE
To provide an arboricultural maintenance service within the City of to ensure trees on Council owned land are kept in a safe and technically sound condition
- PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Carry out all aspects of arboricultural tasks including pruning, felling and planting.
- Perform crown lifting and shaping operations to trees that have been indicated as requiring this work.
This includes substantially lifting the crown of the tree to aid passage of vehicles or pedestrians beneath the tree.
- Perform crown reduction to any tree that has been identified as requiring this type of work. This includes the removal of substantially large branches from the crown of the tree.
- Perform tree felling operations to any tree that has been identified as requiring this task, this includes taking trees down by sections where appropriate or straight felling if the site allows using good arboricultural practices.
- Perform formative pruning to any tree that has been identified as requiring this work.
This includes keeping the tree shape whilst removing dead/decaying branches and re-establish a tree form.
- Perform removal of epicormic growth from trunk and base of tree as identified as requiring this work.
- Undertake to stump and timber chipping operations using appropriate equipment.
- Perform task of applying chemical to tree stumps to prevent re-growth.
- To carry out site clearance work to ensure it is left in a safe and acceptable condition after arboricultural work has taken place.
- To provide cover for the Tree Gang Chargehand and take on their responsibilities as required.
- To provide a 24 hour emergency call out service on a rota basis.

Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council.
In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate HS policy.
