Are you practical, mechanically minded, and looking for a hands‑on engineering career where you can learn new skills and see the results of your work?

We are an established Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) based in Whaley Bridge, designing, manufacturing, installing and servicing specialist industrial machinery for customers across the UK and overseas.

We are looking for a Trainee Technical Service Engineer to join our growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with some basic engineering knowledge who wants to develop your skills, gain valuable experience working on industrial machinery, and build a long-term career in engineering.

You don't need to know everything already – we're looking for the right attitude, practical ability and willingness to learn.

What you'll be doing

Your role will be varied, practical and hands‑on. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will develop your skills in both our workshop and at customer sites.

Responsibilities will include

  • Travelling to customer sites throughout the UK to assist with machinery installation, servicing, maintenance and repairs.
  • Supporting engineers with fault‑finding and problem‑solving on industrial machinery.
  • Working away from home during the week when required, typically Monday to Friday.
  • Assisting with machinery assembly, preparation and testing at our Whaley Bridge workshop.
  • Carrying out practical engineering tasks including drilling, tapping, marking out and general mechanical work.
  • Using hand tools and basic workshop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Learning to understand, service and maintain specialist industrial machinery.
  • Working as part of a team while developing the confidence to work independently.

What we're looking for

We’re interested in people who are keen to learn and develop.

We’re interested in people who are keen to learn and develop, rather than simply looking for someone who already has every skill.

You should have

  • Some basic engineering or mechanical knowledge.
  • Practical experience using hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and develop your engineering knowledge.
  • A practical, “can-do” attitude and a willingness to get stuck in.
  • Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Flexibility to travel and occasionally stay away from home during the working week.
  • Experience in mechanical engineering, maintenance, manufacturing, fitting, fabrication or a similar hands‑on environment would be an advantage, but training will be provided for the right person.

What we offer

  • Competitive, negotiable salary based on your experience and existing skills.
  • On‑the‑job training and development from experienced engineers.
  • The opportunity to gain hands‑on experience with specialist industrial machinery.
  • A varied role - no two customer sites or jobs are necessarily the same.
  • The opportunity to travel throughout the UK, with occasional overseas work.
  • A supportive, friendly team environment.
  • A genuine opportunity to develop your skills and progress your engineering career.
  • The chance to become an important part of a growing, established engineering business.

Who might this suit?

  • A recent engineering apprentice or graduate looking for your first engineering role.
  • Currently working in a workshop or manufacturing environment and looking for your next step.
  • A mechanically minded person who enjoys fixing, building and understanding how things work.
  • An experienced tradesperson looking to move into technical service engineering.
  • Someone with practical skills and enthusiasm who wants to build a career in engineering.
  • Most importantly, we're looking for someone reliable, enthusiastic and keen to learn.
