The Role

The Temporary Accommodation Audit Officer plays a key role in ensuring the Council’s temporary accommodation is safe, compliant, and delivers positive outcomes for residents. The role combines customer support and quality assurance, working directly with households to help them sustain their temporary accommodation placement, maximise income through benefit support, and overcome barriers that may prevent them from securing long-term housing.

By providing early intervention, practical guidance, and coordinated support with internal and external partners, the post helps residents progress towards suitable settled accommodation and achieve sustainable housing outcomes. In addition, the role monitors accommodation standards and provider performance through regular audits, helping to improve service quality, reduce time spent in temporary accommodation, and deliver better value for money.

About You

The successful candidate will bring strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload, work independently, and maintain accurate records while producing clear, evidence-based reports. They will have a good understanding of housing, homelessness, and welfare processes, along with the confidence to work with vulnerable households, manage challenging situations, and apply policies and procedures fairly and consistently.

They will be confident lone working and undertaking visits to temporary accommodation properties, including conducting audits, inspections, and welfare visits, assessing risks, and taking appropriate action where concerns are identified. A proactive, solution-focused approach is essential, with the ability to identify and address issues at an early stage, support residents to sustain their accommodation and progress towards settled housing, and work collaboratively with accommodation providers, landlords, and internal teams to improve standards, ensure compliance, and achieve positive outcomes for customers.
