Technical Specialist Engineer to join our team at our Sand Hutton site in York. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Mechanical or Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, supporting specialist environments, and delivering exceptional service. You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving specialist facilities, including Controlled Environment Rooms, CL3 laboratories, and other critical infrastructure.

Working closely with site teams and clients, you’ll provide technical expertise, lead fault diagnosis, support project delivery, and help drive continuous improvement across the site. As our Technical Specialist Engineer, you will:

  • Deliver reactive maintenance, condition surveys, installations and project support.
  • Diagnose faults across complex mechanical and electrical systems, providing effective solutions and escalating where appropriate.
  • Support energy reduction initiatives and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical documentation to support maintenance activities.
  • Analyse asset performance data to identify recurring issues and recommend preventative solutions.
  • Provide on-site technical coaching, training and mentoring to engineering colleagues.
  • Attend client and project handover meetings as the technical representative when required.
  • Produce detailed technical reports and contribute to Beyond Economic Repair (BER), dilapidation and maintenance processes.

Recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship. Strong background in commercial or industrial Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) engineering. Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills. Experience working on complex building services and critical infrastructure. Good understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS). Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and engineering software. Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills. Ability to prioritise workloads and work independently while supporting wider teams. A customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality service. A recognised multi skilled M&E qualification.
