As a Band 3 Technical Instructor, you will be required to support the Registered Nurse/Physiotherapist Specialists and Senior Technical Instructors in the overall delivery of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme.

Under the delegated supervision of the Registered Nurse/Physiotherapist Specialists and Senior Technical Instructors, you will assist in the assessment processes, delivery of classes, deliver education sessions, and undertake reassessment/evaluation activities, providing explanation, support and advice to patients, relatives and carers, as appropriate within your competency.

You will be expected prioritise and organise yourself in order to complete delegated activities, meeting the needs of the patients and the service.

You will be responsible for reporting clinical observations, escalating any concerns and documenting clinical activity that you undertake.

To assist with supervision and support of Service Users at Pulmonary Rehabilitation Classes and give accurate feedback on observations.

Support and supervise patients during exercise classes, providing accurate feedback on observations made to the most appropriate colleague.

  • 2. To provide support and encouragement to patients throughout the Pulmonary Rehabilitation process.
  • 3. Under direction of the Senior Technical Instructor, you will be expected to administer the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Service.
  • 4. Support delivery of exercise programmes with individuals or groups as directed by the Registered Nurse / Physiotherapist or Senior Technical Instructor.

To set up and take down all the activity equipment at class locations, check and clean equipment following Trust Policy and Procedures.

When class has finished, ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately.

  • 6. To assist a Service User in practical problem solving by obtaining information on services which may enhance independence.
  • 7.

To assess a Service Users ability to safely use exercise equipment (hand weights, exercise bike etc) in classes and to record accurately, escalating any concerns to a registered practitioner.

  • 8. To complete standardised walking tests as part of a patient assessment following service guidelines.

To practice within the boundaries and limitations of your role, referring or escalating anything outside of these to a Registered Nurse/Physiotherapist.

To obtain valid consent from the patient prior to undertaking any task and to inform and seek guidance from the Registered Nurse / Physiotherapist, if there are any concerns about the patient's capacity to give consent.

  • 5. To refer Service Users, with their consent, to other services or agencies as appropriate, at the direction of or with the approval of a Registered Nurse or Physiotherapist.

  • 1. Be responsible for organising own priorities and delegated workload.
  • 2. To plan activities such as reassessments, make appointments and collaborate with colleagues to ensure the most urgent tasks are completed within an appropriate time frame.

To support with the induction and mentorship of new or rotating staff, within the AIRS service, and to support the learning opportunities of students attending Pulmonary Rehabilitation for a study day or placement.

  • 1. To operate within the policies, procedures and guidelines of the Trust & professional bodies, at all times.
  • 2. To maintain and ensure clinical records are factual, organised, clear and which comply with current guidelines.
  • 3. To contribute to service development through engagement with Quality Improvement projects and implementing agreed change within own practice.
  • 4. To actively engage in the annual appraisal process, reviewing achievements and the development of a personal development plan.
  • 5. To complete and maintain mandatory training compliance, as appropriate for the role.
  • 6. To engage in regular clinical supervision to reflect and develop practice.
  • 7. To be aware of responsibility for self and others under the Health and Safety at Work Act and to operate at all times within organisational and service safety guidelines.
  • 8. To report all incidents and near misses to a senior member of the team, and where appropriate, complete incident reporting using the trusts reporting system.
