This is a fantastic time to join Team Salford. The city is being transformed through unprecedented levels of development and investment, and this growth trajectory is set to continue. Positive change can already be seen on the ground across new City Centre neighbourhoods including Chapel Street, Crescent, Greengate, Middlewood Locks and New Bailey, alongside the landmark MediaCityUK development at Salford Quays. However, this is just the start. As Salford continues to deliver the next waves of sustainable and inclusive growth, the city is on track to provide around 40,000 new homes and 40,000 new jobs by 2040.

Supporting this ambition is a significant programme of transport, active travel and public realm investment, aligned with the Greater Manchester 2040 Transport Strategy. These major infrastructure schemes will help connect people to employment, education, healthcare and leisure opportunities, creating healthier, more sustainable communities and ensuring that growth is accessible to all. At the heart of our plans for development is our vision to create a fairer and more inclusive local economy that delivers greater social and environmental justice, where wealth is shared more widely across all our communities.

It is within this context that we are now seeking to grow our Investment and Programmes team, the strategic growth section for the Place Directorate, delivering cross-cutting programmes, driving economic policy and investment into the city, and supporting a crucial business and performance management function on behalf of the Place Senior Leadership Team. We are seeking a new team member to bring enthusiasm, creativity and fresh perspectives to stakeholder communications and public engagement across active travel projects and major infrastructure improvements.

You will play an important role in helping residents, businesses and stakeholders understand how these schemes support Salford's long-term growth ambitions, improve connectivity and create opportunities for people and communities to thrive.

About the role

The Project Officer role offers a unique opportunity to support major infrastructure programmes by working collaboratively with teams across the council and our partners. The postholder will play a key role in strengthening the city’s relationships with residents, communities, organisations and network users, helping to build understanding and support for the transformation underway to create a more inclusive, equitable and greener transport network.

We are looking for a flexible, mission-driven individual who is motivated by making a positive difference and supporting inclusive growth across the city. You will be a people-person with strong interpersonal skills and a confident, clear communication style, able to build trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

The role will involve supporting stakeholder engagement and communications activity linked to regeneration and growth programmes. This will include stakeholder mapping, helping to plan and coordinate briefings, meetings and engagement activity with members, internal teams, partners, communities and businesses. You will also support the preparation of clear and engaging materials to share progress, promote success stories and raise awareness of growth and investment across the city.

You will contribute to the development of engagement materials tailored to different stakeholder groups, including helping to present complex or technical information in accessible and appropriate formats. Ensuring that engagement activity and materials are accessible will be essential. The postholders will also support the completion of Equality and Impact Assessments to help ensure engagement and delivery activity is inclusive.

The role will support data analysis to inform project development, funding submissions and business cases, as well as assist with reporting requirements. There may also be opportunities to support the delivery of events and activity that help showcase regeneration projects and celebrate progress across the city.

About you

We welcome applicants with some project management and/or communications knowledge and experience who have a passion for regeneration and sustainable transport delivery. More important is to be a solution seeker with excellent communication skills who has the flexibility and drive to achieve key project milestones. A great collaborator and people-person, you will be assured in taking personal responsibility for activities.

We look forward to hearing from you!

The ‘key outcomes’ and ‘what we need from you’ sections of the Role Profile are there to give you an understanding of what we would like to see reflected in your covering letter (maximum of 2 pages) and CV.

  • Passport/ID - You will be required to provide documentary proof of your right to work in the UK
  • Qualifications/registrations if applicable for the role

Please note that Salford City Council is currently unable to provide visa sponsorship for any role, as no Certificates of Sponsorship are available. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
