An attractive opportunity has arisen to join the Radiology Department at the Great Western Hospital as a Band 5 Radiographer. The successful candidate will conduct diagnostic radiological examinations across a range of clinical specialities, adapting techniques to accommodate a range of patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal requirements. Responsibilities:

  • To independently assess and justify referrals under IR(ME)R 2000 following practitioner guidelines where appropriate.
  • To interpret Clinician's requirements, to determine the appropriate radiographic imaging technique and ensure that it is performed in accordance with best practice and that the resultant images are diagnostic.
  • To work out of hours to support the Radiology services offered at Great Western Hospitals; including night shifts and weekends.
  • To undertake CT scans when trained in the absence of a Radiologist according to agreed protocols once trained.
  • To use the departmental radiology information computer system (CRIS) as required and be conversant with the picture archive communication system (PACS).
  • To undertake Quality Control procedures, including Quality Assurance testing for image quality and equipment safety.
  • To undertake and participate in clinical audit and research and to act on the findings where possible and provide statistical information on the workload when necessary.
  • To provide a service within the community hospitals as part of a band 5 rotation.
  • To complete all imaging requests in a timely manner.
