We are looking for a Research Officer to take responsibility for delivering key research objectives on the HIT project, managed by Chris Groves in the School of Social Sciences at Swansea University and Sara Macbride-Stewart at Cardiff University. The project involves a consortium of nine research institutions across Europe, is managed by Tampere University and Demos Helsinki from Finland and has as its focus learning from past experiences of industrial transitions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering research on one work package led by Dr Groves and Prof. Macbride-Stewart and contributing to other work packages led by other institutions as required, with three main objectives

  1. to understand how business, policy, and civil society in Wales envision future outcomes of the green transition and how these expectations relate to past industrial transitions;
  2. to co-produce a research methods toolkit to enable European project partners to conduct similar research in other locations;
  3. develop a Welsh case study documenting how policy and socio-economic factors have shaped previous transitions and are influencing the course of the green transition.

This is an exciting opportunity for an applicant with proven research, organisational and time management skills, and with expertise and academic qualifications in relevant subjects (science and technology studies, sociology of expectations, economic sociology, economic geography), together with a strong interest in just transitions research. This is a temporary post of 36 months in duration.
