At DVLA, digital services are at the heart of how we deliver for millions of citizens across the UK. As part of the Infrastructure & Operations Services (I&OPS) directorate, the Storage, Backup and Cyber Recovery team are responsible for maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that stores and protects DVLA's vital data and services. The team manages enterprise storage, backup and cyber recovery solutions, ensuring systems remain resilient, secure and recoverable in the face of evolving threats and operational challenges.

Joining our department comes with many benefits, including:

  • Employer pension contribution of 28.97% of your salary. Read more about Civil Service Pensions here

  • Flexible working options where we encourage a great work-life balance.

As a Lead Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational management and support of the DVLA’s enterprise storage, backup, and cyber recovery platforms. The position is critical in ensuring business continuity, ransomware recovery readiness, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across all supported environments.

The Lead Infrastructure Engineering will provide technical leadership across storage, backup and cyber recovery technologies while leading and developing a small team of Senior Infrastructure Engineers. Reporting directly to the Head of Storage, Backup & Cyber Recovery, the role will drive the delivery, resilience, and continuous improvement of the DVLA's data protection and recovery capabilities.

You will play a key role in shaping the direction of the function through both technical and people leadership and management. Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Oversee programmes and projects.

  • Work with technical architects to translate the architectural designs into operations and support technical architects in operationalising the designs.

  • Lead and direct infrastructure specialist teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining solutions according to departmental policy (if taking a managerial path).
