This job description describes in general terms the normal duties which the post-holder will be expected to undertake. However, the job or duties described may vary or be amended from time to time without changing the level of responsibility associated with the post.
This role will require staff to maintain appropriate behaviours on a daily basis.
- Assist in the life skills and social development of young people under the direction and guidance of the Manager, Deputy Manager, and supervisor.
- Assist in the implementation of Individual Programmes for Young People and help monitor their stays.
- Provide support for individual young adults inside and outside the centre to enable them to fully participate in activities.
- Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary.
- Assist with maintaining young people's records.
- Support young people with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
This home will be supporting young adults with autism and other learning difficulties, which can mean they display behaviour that challenges.
Personal and Social Care
- Assist and provide personal care to any of the young people, including bathing/showering.
- Assist the young people when eating their food/drinks.
- Be aware of all young people that require medication and administer routine and emergency medication as and when required (once training has been completed).
- Tube feeding (once training has been completed).
- Ensure the home is cleaned and kept to a good standard, completing all cleaning that is required each shift.
- Assist the young people to unpack and pack their bags, ensuring items are stored correctly and logged.
- Assist the young people in activities.
- Assist the young people in the preparation of meals and drinks.
- Communicate with the young people in an effective manner.
- Prepare and present the facility for the young people's visits.
- Ensure all records on the cloud and paper files are completed before the end of the shift.
- Undertake other duties from time to time as the manager requires.
- Complete individual logs on the cloud.
- Complete all home logs.
- Report any changes to the environment or the young people's care needs.
- Ensure all information is read and signed on the cloud system.
Standards and Quality Assurance
- Support the aims and ethos of the respite.
- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Attend team and staff meetings.
- Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the management team.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
- Follow all set guidelines and policies relating to the home and the individuals.
- Attend all mandatory training as and when required.
- Follow all set risk assessments.
There may be duties that need to be carried out that are not listed above, and it is under the management's discretion to inform you of these as and when they are needed. You will be required to work nights, evenings, and weekends; the rota will be completed a month in advance.
