The successful applicant will be working as part of a small team in an industrial kitchen providing meals to people with varied diets. The role of a kitchen assistant will be expected to:

  • Assist in the preparation of all food and beverages as and when required, as directed by the cook, assistant cook or manager, whilst ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare and serve food in accordance with defined standards and quality, working within CQC / OFSTED guidelines regarding current health safety and hygiene legislation and Health and Safety policy, with the aim of achieving high standards of customer care and good quality at low cost.
  • Help to maintain excellent standards within the kitchen to meet the needs of environmental health and to help maintain current hygiene rating of 5 star.
  • Promote and participate in a proactive approach to Health and Safety in the delivery of all catering operations.
  • Keep abreast of new initiatives, systems, and regulations through regular training.
  • Promote effective waste management within the kitchen.

This role is based on a Monday to Friday working pattern. Kitchen Assistants perform a range of duties around the kitchen, including:

  • Washing, peeling and preparing food ingredients
  • Unloading fresh supplies and organising the stockroom
  • Checking sell-by dates and rotating food stock
  • Cleaning kitchen appliances and equipment
  • Observing cooking times and correct temperatures
