Your new role as Management Accountant will play a key role within the Management Accounting team, acting as a trusted finance business partner to assigned services. Reporting to the Management Accountancy Team Leader, you will provide high‑quality financial analysis, advice and reporting to support effective budget management, service improvement and change initiatives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting services with budget setting, forecasting and monitoring
- Investigating and explaining variances
- Ensuring the achievement of approved savings
- Contributing to business cases, performance reporting, medium‑ and long‑term financial planning, and the preparation of service final accounts
- Completing statutory and other financial returns
- Supporting the production of the annual accounts in collaboration with corporate finance colleagues
- Providing direction and support to a small team
- Engaging regularly with senior managers, auditors and external stakeholders
What you'll need to succeed:
- You must be a professionally qualified accountant (CCAB or CIMA) with proven experience in a similar management accounting or financial environment
- A strong understanding of accounting standards, legislative requirements and financial governance is essential
- Excellent communication skills, enabling you to explain complex financial information clearly to both financial and non‑financial stakeholders
- Strong analytical capability, high attention to detail, and advanced spreadsheet skills are required
- Experience of working with financial ledger systems
- Well organised, adaptable and comfortable working to tight deadlines with competing priorities
- Demonstrating leadership capability, initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement
- Experience within a public sector or local authority environment
