As a Staff Nurse within Endoscopy, you will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy. The service is also home to the Dorset Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and plays a key role in supporting diagnostic and cancer pathways.
Working alongside Clinical Endoscopists, Consultants, nurses and healthcare support workers, you will provide compassionate, evidence-based care throughout the patient's journey, from admission and assessment to recovery and discharge.
The post is primarily based at Poole Hospital with frequent cross-site working across Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Wimborne Victoria Hospital. Shift patterns are typically between 07:30 and 19:00, Monday to Saturday, including participation in the 24-hour on-call rota once competent.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised patient care throughout the endoscopy pathway, from admission and preparation through to recovery and discharge.
You will assist during a wide range of endoscopic procedures, support patients and their families, maintain accurate clinical documentation and promote the highest standards of patient safety, dignity and experience. You will work collaboratively with Clinical Endoscopists, Consultants, nurses and Healthcare Support Workers, contributing to the effective delivery of a busy and evolving service.
The role offers excellent opportunities for professional development, including training in specialist endoscopy skills, nurse-led consent and participation in the on-call service following competency assessment. You will also contribute to the supervision of junior staff and students, quality improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of endoscopy services across University Hospitals Dorset.
