Clinical Responsibilities
The appointee along with existing speciality doctors/clinical lead will be responsible for the care of:
- All patients referred by their GP.
- All patients referred by the Emergency Medicine Department.
- All patients referred by internal & external specialities.
Professional Responsibilities
All aspects of Dermatology including:
- Minor skin surgery operations.
- Urgent and routine GP referrals.
- In patient referrals and referrals from other specialities.
The job plan will be in line with the terms and conditions of the new consultant contract and guidelines issued by the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD). The successful applicant will have 4 clinics per week, three of which will be a general clinic and one skin cancer clinic. This will be negotiable, dependent on service needs and the applicants specialist interests. The timing and location of clinics will be dependent on the needs of the service at the time of commencement of the post.
There will be a weekly continuing professional development (CPD) session based at Broadgreen or Clatterbridge Hospital (once per month at Clatterbridge). This session involves participation in the Dermatology Grand Round, audits and journal clubs. It is attended by all regional dermatology consultants. Travel time is included within the job plan in order to attend. There is also a monthly departmental meeting for local audit, teaching, service planning and discussion of management issues. Additionally, there is a monthly histopathology meeting attended by all dermatology consultants in the department together with our histopathology colleague to discuss individual listed cases with the aim of getting clinic-pathological correlation.
Non-clinical Responsibilities
- Responsible for the training of Speciality Trainees within the department.
- Develop Nurse Specialists role.
- Undertake and supervise Audit/Quality improvement projects and CME.
- Attend relevant MDT meetings.
- Attend weekly MDT specialty meetings including monthly Clinical Governance Meeting.
- Development and promotion of evidence-based practice and guidelines.
- Active contribution to departmental Clinical Governance structure.
- Multi-disciplinary team working and leadership.
- Relevant participation in management.
- Other appropriate duties and responsibilities.
