We are seeking an enthusiastic Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine to join our established Rehabilitation Medicine Service at Southmead Hospital, one of the UK's leading Major Trauma Centres.

This exciting role spans the Severn Major Trauma Network, Hyperacute Rehabilitation Team (HART), Neurorehabilitation Services and specialist Spasticity Management Clinics.

You will:

  • Lead the assessment and management of patients with major trauma and complex rehabilitation needs.
  • Support the Hyperacute Rehabilitation Team, delivering rehabilitation at the earliest stage of recovery.
  • Provide specialist neurorehabilitation care, including for patients with traumatic brain injury and neurological disorders.
  • Contribute to specialist spasticity management services, including botulinum toxin treatments and intrathecal baclofen therapy, with training available where required.
  • Work closely with regional rehabilitation services to ensure seamless patient pathways and excellent outcomes.
  • Participate in service development, teaching, audit, research and quality improvement initiatives.

As a Specialty Doctor in Rehabilitation Medicine, you will play a key role in delivering specialist rehabilitation care across the Major Trauma Centre (MTC), Hyperacute Rehabilitation Team (HART) and Neurorehabilitation Services at Southmead Hospital.

You will assess and manage patients with major trauma, neurological conditions and complex rehabilitation needs, supporting recovery from the earliest stages through to discharge and rehabilitation. You will lead rehabilitation assessments, provide specialist advice to acute wards and critical care areas, coordinate rehabilitation plans and support discharge planning.

Working closely with consultants, therapists, psychologists, nurses and regional rehabilitation providers, you will help ensure patients receive high-quality multidisciplinary care. The role includes participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, trauma board rounds, family meetings and case conferences, helping to optimise patient outcomes and ensure timely access to rehabilitation services.

You will also support outpatient clinics in neurorehabilitation and spasticity management, including botulinum toxin treatments and intrathecal baclofen therapy. In addition, you will contribute to teaching, clinical governance, audit, research, quality improvement and service development activities, supporting the development of rehabilitation services across the Trust and the wider Severn Major Trauma Network.

The successful post holder will play a key role within the Hyperacute Rehabilitation Team (HART), Major Trauma Centre and Neurorehabilitation Service at Southmead Hospital, delivering specialist rehabilitation medicine care to patients with complex trauma, neurological conditions and rehabilitation needs.

Responsibilities include undertaking comprehensive rehabilitation assessments, providing specialist advice to acute wards and intensive care units, coordinating multidisciplinary rehabilitation plans, and supporting effective discharge planning and onward referrals to specialist rehabilitation and community services. The post holder will work closely with trauma, surgical, critical care, neurology and allied health professional teams to optimise patient outcomes and recovery.

The role also includes participation in daily board rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, family meetings and case conferences, ensuring coordinated, patient‑centred care throughout the rehabilitation pathway. The post holder will support consultant‑led outpatient clinics in neurorehabilitation and complex spasticity management, including botulinum toxin injections and intrathecal baclofen therapy, with training available if required.

In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to service development, quality improvement, clinical governance, audit and research activities, helping to enhance rehabilitation pathways across the Trust and the wider Severn Major Trauma Network. They will participate in teaching and educational activities for undergraduate and postgraduate learners and maintain engagement in continuing professional development, appraisal and GMC revalidation processes.
