Pay: 2021 SAS Contract pay scale (based on years of experience)

Contact: Part Time - working 24 hours a week (working pattern to be discussed - occasional weekend working and first medical on call will be required). Candidates looking for just 8 or 16 hours a week would be considered.

Term: This is a Fixed Term contract working until the end of September 2027

Location: Based at our hospice in Winsley, Wiltshire (with same travel across our community as needed)

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Specialty Doctor to join our Medical Team, on a fixed term, part-time basis providing expert palliative care across inpatient, outpatient and community services. Whether you are already working in palliative medicine or have experience in a related specialty such as general medicine, geriatrics, oncology or general practice, we would love to hear from doctors who share our values of We Care, We Connect, We Create.

WHAT WILL THE ROLE INVOLVE?

As a Specialty Doctor, you will play a key role in delivering specialist palliative medical care as part of our multidisciplinary team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing day-to-day medical care for patients across our Inpatient Unit, community and outpatient services
  • Undertaking clinical assessments, formulating management plans and supporting patients with complex palliative care needs
  • Leading and participating in ward rounds, multidisciplinary discussions and patient reviews
  • Managing complex symptoms, supporting advance care planning and enabling high-quality end of life care
  • Working closely with patients, families and carers to ensure care remains compassionate, personalised and responsive to individual needs
  • Providing specialist palliative care advice to healthcare professionals, primary care teams, hospitals and partner organisations
  • Participating in the hospice first on-call rota and supporting urgent clinical decision making when required
  • Contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, service development, education, research and innovation activities
  • Supporting the development of future healthcare professionals through teaching, training and mentorship opportunities

ABOUT YOU

The role would be well suited to a compassionate doctor who values holistic, person-centred care and wants to make a meaningful difference to patients and families, and wishes to gain more experience in palliative medicine - there will be the opportunity to learn more about palliative medicine during this role. The role would be well suited to a doctor who already has experience working in palliative medicine, general practice, general medicine or oncology.
