We are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacist to join our friendly department in York Hospital rotating every 9 months through:

A postgraduate clinical qualification (completion of 1st year minimum) in pharmacy to Diploma level is essential as is prior experience of working in hospitals. An independent prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential as there will be a funded opportunity to work towards obtaining an NMP qualification depending on your experience and departmental priorities.

You need excellent communication and time-management skills and must demonstrate the flexibility a rotational post requires.

As a specialist rotational pharmacist you will work as part of dedicated pharmacy teams to provide and develop clinical pharmacy services to patients and care groups. You will:

  • Participate in the multidisciplinary team delivering and promoting high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical ward based care to patients
  • Act as a clinical role model in each area and supervise junior staff
  • Promote safe drug use within the specialty
  • Develop, implement and audit local guidelines
  • Work with the education and training team in supporting and delivering education programmes for pharmacy undergraduates, trainee pharmacists and qualified pharmacy professionals.

The variety in this role presents an ideal opportunity to form and develop clinical, teaching and leadership skills – all of which will support your development in taking up a senior role in the future. Training and development in all these areas will be supported.

You must have good clinical and operational pharmacy skills with a demonstrable record of delivering a high quality clinical pharmacy service as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Core service hours are Mon-Fri 08:45-17:15. The post includes participation in working weekends (currently 1 in 8), Bank holiday (1 per year) and on call rotas. On call working frequency (from home) is only approximately 1 in 35 nights.

  • 27 days holiday rising to 33 days (depending on NHS Trust service)
  • A generous relocation package of up to 30% of salary (capped at £18k) to support with relocation expenses for hard to fill positions where relocation would be an expectation to undertake the role fully.
  • A variety of different types of paid and unpaid leave covering emergency and planned leave
  • Confidential advice and support on personal, work, family and relationship issues, 24/7, from our Employee Assistance Programme
  • NHS Car Lease scheme and Cycle to Work scheme
