Do you have experience in supporting students with special needs in their education/academic curriculum? Then Randstad may just have the perfect opportunity for you. Randstad Student Support are recruiting for Specialist one-to-one Study Skills Support Workers to work with autistic students studying at Royal Holloway, University of London. The role has already begun at the start of the new academic year (from 1st September 2026) and is a hybrid role. All successful candidates must be able to travel to the local university or college and offer both in-person and online sessions flexibly to meet student preferences.
As a Specialist one-to-one Study Skills Support Worker, you will provide learning support and academic guidance. This includes creating an individual learning plan that has been tailored to the student's needs and encourages them to become an independent learner. You are required to support students to:
- Build on strengths and learning strategies
- Create strategies around organisation and time management
- Create action plans to stay on track with studies
- Build on research skills - widening knowledge by using a variety of sources
- Distinguish appropriate sources and how to correctly use references
- Build on comprehension skills within reading and writing
Whilst working for Randstad, the needs of individual students should be taken into consideration case by case, and you should ensure that any concerns are addressed in a timely manner. It is expected that you would act professionally and maintain confidentiality within your role at all times, sharing all relevant information with Randstad to ensure the best possible service to your students.
Requirements for the role:
As this is a specialist role, you must have the correct qualifications and training. All students you will be supporting are funded by the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), meaning all candidates providing this role must adhere to the qualification framework set out by the DfE. Candidates must be qualified to undergraduate degree level (level 6 as minimum), have a teaching qualification AND have taken extensive training in adult autism. The extensive training may include:
- 6 National Autistic Society Modules (non-medical helper package)
- The Optimum Training Course: Autism and ADHD in Higher Education: Recognising and addressing the barriers through Non-Medical Helper (NMH) Mentoring and Study Skills Strategies.
- Autism training provided by the National Association of Disability Practitioners (NADP)
Additional requirements include:
- Experience of working with autistic clients
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to identify ways of helping students to build on their learning strengths whilst maintaining a confidential and professional working relationship
- Punctuality and reliability
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to manage a caseload of students
